2001 Kanye West Beat Tape

Check this out.  "Cool" video surfaced a couple days ago, the music on it happens to be 27 beats Kanye put together in 2001.
The owner Jensen Karp found them stumbling through storage of old CD's..... jackpot.  Was it doing projects as such that progressed him to release College Dropout three years later?

from beats to YEEZY Season 1..... progression, growth, wicked

The Who

So these guys, The Who, came through Houston today.  If you don't know who they are you're a simple google search away from tons of biographies that'll teach you they were awarded the  Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2001.

Being the "chosen one" I went with my dad who was stoked to see them perform... we went to a bar called Flying Saucer before hand, I lost count of all the adult hipsters that went in pregaming for the concert.  When the bar began playing songs from The Who minutes before we departed for the arena I realized I was in for a treat.
Don't misinterpret me they rocked hard for being nearly 70 years old and deserve nothing but respect.... it was like their 50 year anniversary tour, RIDICULOUS.  Really I think they are a lot like the anti-culture of today, they are just a few decades worth of generations behind us.  They weren't 15 with an Iphone but they were breaking down barriers by being themselves and defying the normed society....in England though.
Well here a couple of their songs I think are worth Listening especially eminence front.

Behind Blue Eyes <------ FIRE

This is Joan Jett

watch this video and tell me she doesn't remind you of Miley Cyrus.... she opened for The Who

Earl Sweatshirt - Solace

I was scrolling through twitter waiting for the order me and Thunderstreak had just put in at Whataburger when I saw some random music blog had posted billboard like about its release.

I was enjoying that moment in life way too much to stop and give it the ten minutes I saw it took, plus the setting wasn't right.  NOW I'm football stadium chillin at Thunderstreak's Intramural soccer game.

The project is streaming through my headphones as I watch/type.... It came in hot with some weirdly "cool" distorted voices.

BUT after watching Earl's last Interview I refuse to post anything on what I think the album is about because I think Earl deserves the people to take a step back from what they think they know and give the project a completely unbiased listen.  Well okay.... Solace

"I've been alone for the longest, its trouble in the way that we jogging, nothing going to save us or stop us, just me and my nibbling conscious"
does this show progression from "and for a moment high as fuck I've been alone in my shit." ...... that's on IDLSIDGO in case you didn't know.....??

I went to the first Jambalaya that was headlined by EarlWolf, the whole thing is a fresh twist on a music festival.  One day, Multiple Artsists, Loads of fun.... at least I had fun.
Free Press Summer Fest Line Up and Date
While I find their line up to be lacking something every year I attend the event.  I support my city and this is Houston's only Music Festival... I think the directors of it are avoiding catering to any genre more then any other because Houston is so diverse and they want to accommodate everyone.

I attend all the concerts I can to simply try and further connect with the artists I support.
Mac Millers Space Migration Tour has got to be my favorite tour of all time.... just to throw that out there.
If I didn't mention your favorite artist.... chill out they may still be touring, it is as simple as googling the artist name followed by "tour"

Jordan Bratton - Prisoner ft Chance the Rapper

Listened to this track after finishing my second class of this so far ordinary monday... glad I did.
Jordan speaks on a theory that females of this generation, if not just the specific girl he is referencing, are prisoners without a cage.  It's a progression that starts with her "sniffing and drinking, changing" who she is because she lives a life not led by faith in God.  I think it is a reference to the peer pressure most kids of this generation fall victim to, due to increased exposure to all the flexing on social media.  It got me thinking on how this era can be considered very similar to the Gilded age because while on the outside everything seems golden the reality is much different.
I had never heard of Jordan Bratton before this track but I do believe he did what you hope any artist would do in a song.  Don't take my word on it though, listen to it below and form yourself an opinion on your own.
"No, riches don't make a happy home"

Chance the Rappers verse is quite similar to the one on Action Bronsons Baby Blue.
I say this because of its placement and my opinion that he simply delivers.
"Just an amateur trying mature, grew up so fast that she never grew up, got to move somewhere new just cause its newer."

Jordan Bratton is releasing an EP entitles Youth on May 12th.

Playboi Carti - Fetti ft Dash and Maxo Kream

Ian Connor, head of Awful Records, took to twitter today to bless the world with a new track from Playboi Carti.

All three of the artists on the song were at the soft opening of the newest high end street wear boutique in Houston, Shalon & Rogers.... they likely recorded it around then
(I watched DA$H spill a cup of muddy liquid all over the floor there... too funny)

I will definitely be listening to the song repetitively as I drive through Houston tonight in route for my Dorm but listen to it below and form your own dam opinion.

Ian is obviously master minding something big here... to me it is like he is bringing the creative director niche to music and executing it oh so well.

Lyrics he tweeted from the song nearly a month before it was released.

Wiz Khalifa - Refresh and Say No More

Rolling Papers was theme music for one of the best summers of my life so I will always be a Wiz Khalifa fan and supporter.

About a month ago Wiz and Ty Dolla Sign put out a joint EP entitled Talk About it in the Morning
While I haven't listened to the entire EP I downloaded Refresh and Say No More when Wiz put out the two songs together around New Years.  I never gave them much of a listen until it came on shuffle mid drive through Houston one night.  It has been played much more frequently since especially the Say No More portion.

"I told her don't talk about it, just be about it"

Midnight Studios

I went to the grand opening of Shalon & Rogers yesterday; of course they had some BAPE and Supreme..... but they also had a selection of Midnight Studios Spring/Summer collection.
While I think a couple of the pieces came straight out of Ian Connors closet the availability of those pieces gave the store a vibe far more advanced then anything else I've seen in Houston.

The brand was created by Shane Gonzales and celebrated its 1 year anniversary about two months back.   The spring/summer collection is currently available on the brands online shop.
You can check out the entire site and explore all the "cool" stuff going on there.

Not that they should be your favorite pieces after I show them to you.... but these are my two favorite pieces from the collection and thanks to Shalon & Rogers I got my hands on one of em.

Make sure to click on the "about" tab when you check the site out.... I thought maybe Shane just hadn't put what he wanted there yet since there are no words just The Picture....
I have recently interpreted it to mean, he doesn't want you to know the "about"... if you like the clothes you like them don't let the background of a brand be the reason you like or dislike them.
maybe that makes no sense and is completely wrong.... no future

Check Midnight Studios tumblr if anything by clicking---> and now the end is near

Yung Nation: AF4

Previous
Next
  • Being a former resident of the DFW area a post on Yung Nation's newest mixtape, All Freestyles 4 had to be made. The mixtape dropped April 1st and they gave us that same flow that makes everyone at the party get up and dance.
  • Yung Nation has stayed consistent over the years dropping mixtape after mixtape. I have been listening to their music since I was in middle school when they dropped their Yung Nation Retreat mixtape. It's hard not to like Yung Nation especially if you from the DFW area, the way they always show love to their fans day  in and day out.
  • "NATIIIOOOOOON"
  • BAPE NYC 10

    Alright alright alright alright alright
To celebrate their 10 year anniversary of the BAPE store in New York the brand is releasing a capsule of 10 different collaborations.
Each consists of a short sleeve, long sleeve, and zip hoodie with classic BAPE graphics on the hood.
here is a list of the ten artists they are collaborating with
    1) Big Sean @BigSean
    2) Def Jam Recordings @DefJamRecords
    3) Flatbush Zombies @FlatbushZombies
    5) Kid Cudi @KidCudi
    6) Pusha T @PUSHA_T
    7) RSVP Gallery @RSVPGallery
    9) Travis Scott @trvisXX
    10) Wiz Khalifa @wizkhalifa

Yall can check out the collection here

The fact that Ian Connor and Shane Gonzalez helped design the print for the Wiz Khalifa collab makes it my favorite but look at em and form your own damn opinion.

apparently they had a celebration of some sort and this picture above happened.  I had the pleasure of seeing Travis Scott 2 summers ago when he toured with Casey Veggies... the venue was tiny and nearly exploded from the energy travis brought.  I could only imagine that this was equally insane.

THE CAPSULE RELEASES APRIL 25TH AT THE FLAGSHIP STORE IN NEW YORK....... AND ONLINE MAY 2ND.

    KAL TWO

Met this dude in the Urban Outfitters at the Gallo.
I can remember he was real adamant about playing me some samples of him singing so I listened to them straight off the speaker of his iphone... in a mother fucking urban outfitters... it was "cool."
Not apart of this generation where someone has to hand out a demo tape to show someone what they are doing; it is so much easier and faster then that.  Embrace it.
I showed my support and followed away, he made me believe he wasn't playing any games but injecting himself into the music he was making, it was the least I could do.

I was stoked when I heard Something/Go that song is simply something I had never heard before.... listen to it and form an opinion for yourself.  Don't want to sway you in forming an opinion but the GO half of the song is GREATNESS.

The picture up top is art for a song he released a few days back called PO UP SHAWTY if anything it solidifies that he is a leader creating something new... well at least i think so.

Life is what you make it, so make it great

The question about how to live life right is argued in many different ways by everyone in the world. But I feel like everyone is allowed to have their own answer to that question... just because someone thinks living life is lifting weights every day or eating whatever they wanted when they wanted doesn't mean everyone agrees. I like to live my life like I might not be here tomorrow.. I want to be able to say at the end of the day that I did everything within my power to enjoy that day to the fullest. But I'm not alone in this thought and I was blessed to meet some friends in college that soon became my best friends. We grew to become more so than best friends, but a band of brothers who enjoyed to do things that were seen as outside the box to others. I'm thankful for them and I'm even more thankful that I got the chance to meet some cool people that I'm on the same level with mentally. I guess where I'm really going with this post is: Do what you want with your life because it's your life to live. Do what makes you happy and surround yourself with people who enjoy making life as interesting and fun as you do. - Thunderstreak

"In your day, surround yourself with people who love you, motivate you, encourage you and just make you feel good about being you." - Brigitte Nicole

Life is.... weird but you better go to college

Over the first eighteen years of my life the only thing about my future that was clear was attending college.
Adults I didn't even know would ask me like they deserved to know if I planned on going to college and then judge my entire life on my answer.  Not going to lie it felt pretty good saying yes and having a "positive" conversation on stuff I don't remember.
High School was a breeze, on paper I did everything I was supposed to... better then the other 900 kids I graduated with.  Nobody ever really worried about me, the school system had their handful trying to get hundreds of kids to be able to answer the college question the same way I did.
I graduated and signed my future away to the school that offered me the most money.
I'm not going to go into specifics but I HATE EVERYTHING ABOUT IT.  Well that is a lie, I have met a small amount of people that have earned my love and respect because they... are individuals.

These are supposed to be the best years of my life but I have never been so miserable.   I don't know what I did wrong....

Don't fall into the "trap" do what it is you want to do and never lose sight of the vision that drives your unique being.
keep doing you the world needs you

Ian Connor Interview with Complex through my eyes

Well finally an interview that provides the youth with information on their idol beyond the binged on tweets.
As much as I dislike Complex they have all the good cards in their deck right now and they more then delivered with this interview.
Beyond the normal stuff they do that gets hated on read this article on Maxo Kream..... okay cool they showed love to someone who deserves it... but talk about giving zero effort to an article that attracts attention from a group of people they didn't previously have brain washed.
MAYBE if they didn't publicize every tiny aspect of Jay-z's life he would instead attack them for taking advantage of artists.  that is a whole different story though
it is actually quite similar to what Ian said on the Been Trill ordeal

you can read the interview yourself if you click on these dots .......
I am going to elaborate on two things in the interview I found interesting.  I think I found them interesting because they exhibit characteristics I find lames to be missing.

Alright so it is no secret that drugs are definitely apart of "this" culture.  It is beyond enlightening to see a figure such as Ian give his Kid Cudi x WZRD type perspective on it.... and it be so utterly true.  I interpreted it to mean something along the lines of being yourself with no filters or additives is the best thing you can do and display... no flex.  Is that why people are infatuated with him?
"wait dont answer that.. its rhetorical" - Mac Miller

I found this one interesting because I was lucky enough to attend the soft opening of the store he is Merchandising in Houston.  Not a big store and there was maybe 50 people there... and I saw him inside once.  I was fortunate enough to say "hey dad" and receive a compliment on my hat...... in the corner store down the strip.
Makes me think about the theme "popular kid that knows everyone vs quiet kid in class"

    I'm done... Ian is Cool
    follow him on twitter @souljaian
shout out to Complex Mag don't trip on me screen shotting yalls stuff only like 5 people are going to look at this.

I nons proof read it... I wrote half of it in an Old Testament class so read it and like it

    Cherry Bomb

Listened to it for the first time last night.  Me and Zarkia (my homie) grabbed the biggest speaker we could find and posted up by the lit up pool like 10 o'clock and let it play.  As Mac Miller put it Tyler is an inspiration.  From start to finish we were tuned in having a good time, simply enjoying the fact that we were young alive and listening to a piece of art by an artist that influenced much our now unique personalities.
Deathcamp was the first thing we heard, after adjusting the volume to a suitable level we jammed and sang along to the lyrics we picked up from watching the video
Queneece showed up around the start of Buffalo, Zarkia mentioned it would be cool if she danced to the music so she did in the purest fashion.  I tried snap chatting it because I subconsciously want people to see the things I'm doing..... I was born in the 90's and grew up on social media.  In the end I'm glad there is no evidence of that ever happening, we lived that moment and enjoyed it.
Queneece stuck around until til the beginning of 2seater after we argued if Cherry Bomb was supposed to sound as it did and laughed at the title "Blowmyload"
Smuckers was ridiculous, Trigga Trey had shown up and the vibe led dances around the pool began when we heard.... "money, money, money aint the motive whats your name again nobody know it" sure people who attend are small university were walking by expressing their best wtf look but the fact that Kanye dissed Nike helped us to care not.
-we listened to it at least five times back to back-
We were way to hyped and in deep discussion of all that was said to follow on Keep Da O's and Okaga, Ca but I know we all heard the melody of Okaga, Ca in the background.... I think it subconsciously helped us realize we had just had pure good time.  No drugs, No desire for sex, No stressing over school, No worry about the day to come, No worry about our phones, just good friends on a similar journey through college sharing an experience and reassuring ourselves that we are on our own paths no more right or wrong then any other path but simply the paths we are curving ourselves for ourselves.
Not that it matters but after we listened to Super Rich Kids, P2, and Sandwitches.

Hope you can enjoy listening to the album as much as I did.
In case youre too lazy to go to itunes yourself or plug in it google here is a link to where you can listen/download Cherry Bomb
